If you’ve been following this wellness blog for a while, you know I’m an advocate of sustainable, and non-toxic skincare. These are the main traits of clean beauty products. I knew I had to transition to clean beauty, since I noticed how damaging and toxic certain products are for the skin. And, I am so thankful I did. I saw lots of positive changes not only on my skin’s appearance, but also on its health overall. This fall/ winter, I switched up my skincare routine and tried The Organic Skin Co. products. Here is a review of the brand and experience on my skin.
The Organic Skin Co. products
As I did with my previous review on another clean beauty brand that I love, I did research about this company, as well as its ingredients and packaging. I truly believe in checking the product labels before making any purchase. This is not only valid for anything you eat, but also what you use on your skin. If you are new to clean beauty, you may feel tempted to buy anything that claims it’s “organic”. However, there is a lot of false advertisement out there about what clean beauty truly is. You can read more about clean beauty products in this previous blog post.
As you know, I recommend products that I personally use and love. When it comes to product and care advice, I go for what I believe in. That being said, this review is based on my personal experience with this brand. I am giving my honest thoughts, observations as well as suggestions. Now, let’s learn more about this brand.
The Organic Skin Co. brand
These products originated in New Zealand. Their brand has both skincare and makeup products. One remarkable thing about this company is that they are fully environment-friendly. They plant a tree for every product that you purchase! These are regenerative products that can be recycled after they are used, which is amazing! Talking about less waste!
It all started with a naturopathic clinician and her vision to create a brand that’s fully organic, free of toxic ingredients, found in the soil, instead of a lab. They have strong “green” ethics, and aim to improve everyone’s skin health, in a minimalistic way. You can read more about their story here.
This brand is also certified vegan and made with organics. Another thing that stood out to me about this company is that their formulas are made with revolutionary CO2 extracts. In a nutshell, supercritical extraction is basically the purest way to extract all the benefits from a plant, herb, seed, to get all those benefits straight to your skin! Because the plant’s extracts are so concentrated, that’s how you get the most of its components. And this is when the results in your skin really start to kick in.
Now, let’s talk about the products…
The Organic Skin Co. Skincare
I have been using these products for a little more than a month now, and I must say that I am truly impressed with the results on my skin. One thing that I appreciate is how its minimalist skincare routine helps me keep up without using too much. With this brand, a little goes a long way! Not only with their formulas and packaging, but also the skincare steps. You don’t need a bunch of products to transform your skin in a healthy way.
I have always struggled with oily skin, so having a routine that helps to balance oil/ moisture is essential for me. If you have the same problem, this clean beauty brand will do the job for you. Because the ingredients are fully plant-based, they have amazing anti-inflammatory properties on the skin. From the moment you purchase the products, you notice the difference in the type of packaging. It is made of recyclable materials. I wanted to show what it looks like below. Basically, all their products are gluten-free, and cruelty-free.
The Organic Skin Co. products: Clean State Cleanser
I absolutely love this cleanser! Unlike other types of cleansers, which have a “soapy” or gel texture, this one is like a cream. Once you apply it to the wet skin, you can feel how it gently removes all the dirt, oil and impurities. It forms this nice layer that is gentle on the skin and doesn’t feel like a harsh detergent… (Sorry for the blunt comparison, but that’s what most commercial products feel like…). This is something I appreciate about the clean state cleanser. I essentially use it every day and/or night, depending if I wear makeup or not.
The formula feels great and revitalizes the skin. This cleanser contains Sweet Orange oil, which is great for oily and acne prone skin due to its anti-inflammatory properties. It also has Amla Berry, which is rich in Vitamin C, lemon peel and essential oil. This combination makes it great to remove any impurities from the skin.
Coming up roses exfoliating mask
If you love keeping things simple and effective, this step in your skincare routine is a must! This is a dual product that both exfoliates the skin and serves as a mask. Say hello to minimalist daily skincare and bye to a bunch of skincare steps! The main thing that I like about this product is how it is a 2 in 1 for your skin. I usually apply it right after the cleanser, it gently exfoliates the skin without leaving residue. This mask also smells amazing! It has a fresh formula, made with a combination of rose essences and ingredients to leave the skin supple and soft.
I like that this exfoliating mask has a soft lotion texture. It is very easy to apply, it is not heavy on the skin and you don’t need to use too much product. This is another big bonus! I use the mask once a day, since it also serves as a scrub. A dime size amount does the work.
The Organic Skin Co. products: Set the tone mist toner
This is hands down one of the best skin toners I’ve ever tried! It smells like heaven and its formula is very light! This mist toner comes in a spray bottle, and once you apply it to your skin it will even your pores, as well as leave it refreshed. You just spritz it all over your face and neck, and feel the instant glow on the skin. This toner is perfect for oily skin, thanks to the hydrating qualities of aloe vera and rose flower water. It also has honeysuckle supercritical CO2 extract and brightening Rose Oil. Applying this toner is like using a fresh floral mist.
The Dream Cream moisturizer
If anti-aging or “reverse aging” is your thing, this is the perfect product for you. It works well for people who have dry skin, but it can also do wonders for those who need to balance oil/moisture, like me. The trick here is not to use too much. Trust me, just a tiny bit does a lot! If your skin is oily, you don’t want to apply even a dime size amount.
One thing I noticed about this formula is how thick it is, literally like butter. Unlike most moisturizers that have “lotion” texture, this one is pretty much a thick paste. The main components are New Zealand Native Red Seaweed and New Zealand Native Black Fern, so it is very moisturizing!
This is one of the main reasons why I prefer to use it for fall/ winter, since it’s when the skin is more prone to dry out. The cold is harsh on the skin, so moisturizing it is a must! However, be careful to use only a tiny bit. This would be probably a downside to the formula. I am just being honest here, this is not the best moisturizer for oily skin. To apply it, you will need a little stick, cause using your bare fingers would take up too much product. This is one piece of advice I think would be helpful. I still like how it leaves the skin soft, though.
Some final thoughts…
This brand has some more skincare products. These are just the essential ones I recommend and that I use for a basic skincare routine at home. As you noticed, The Organic Skin Co. products come from a minimalistic approach and are made with lightweight formulas that are right for the skin. I should be using some of the other products from this line soon. They also have serums, balms, treatments, makeup and other solutions which I’m sure are worth trying.
